What Does Laser Cutting
Mean and How Does it Works?
Laser cutting is primarily a thermal process that uses a concentrated laser beam to melt material in a localized area. The molten material is ejected with a co-axial gas jet and a kerf is formed. A continuous cut is produced by moving, under CNC control, the laser beam or workpiece. Laser cutting comes in three major varieties: fusion cutting, flame cutting, and remote cutting.
Benefits |
High quality cut - no finishing |
Ultra flexible - simple or complex parts |
Non contact - no surface blemishing |
Quick set up - small batches |
Low heat input - small HAZ, low distortion |
Lends itself to nearly all materials |
